Oct 15th, 2022 – Festival of Leaves
June 11th – Tree ID walk to include Burrell Brooks Park trees, next to library. A presentation by Mary Olien, then she lead the group on a Tree ID walk for a fun and interactive experience with our variety of trees both at the library and the park. For Mary Olien, horticulture and education have been the centerpiece of her career. With degrees in horticulture and experience teaching in schools and public gardens, Mary had the background and expertise that led to leadership roles in education at the State Arboretum of Virginia at Blandy and in management at Green Spring Gardens. Today she guides Green Spring Gardens, five nature centers, two historic sites and a historic farm as operations branch manager Resource Management Division; however, she is always excited to help others learn.
June 4th – GardenFest 2022! join the Tree Stewards at Belle Grove Plantation for this large event organized by the Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardener Assocation. They will have plants for sale (all $5 each!), vendors, the Master Gardener information booth, children’s activities, raffle items, and garden tool sharpening. Stop by the Tree Steward Tent and chat or ask your tree questions!
May 21st – Pruning 101 –a presentation by Ron Perlik, Certified Arborist, who lead the group for some hands-on experience pruning nearby trees. Ron hosts monthly workshops and has been a treasured member of the Front Royal Warren County Tree Stewards for many years. Bring your pruners and your questions for an informative morning with Ron.
Conifers & Christmas Trees
December 11th, 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, at the Samuels Public Library
Pine, Fir or Spruce? Can you tell the difference? Carrie Whitacre, a Certified Arborist and an Assistant Curator at the State Arboretum of Virginia, Blandy Experimental Farm will teach us about these wonderful trees which bring us so much greenery through the winter! Weather permitting, we will take a walk around the Samuels Library grounds to identify conifers. Hosted by the Front Royal/Warren County Tree Stewards.
